Can We Talk?

“Don’t talk about religion and politics,”

your grandma said.

I get it.

It’s a good rule to follow. Almost all the time.

But Americans need to start talking to each other.

In a healthy society, family bonds are stronger than political bonds.

Now keep in mind, it’s only a conversation if THEY KNOW you’re answering their questions. You can spew on and on about whatever you want, but these days it seems everyone ONLY ever has their top five most pressing questions on their mind.

Are they listening?

And are you listening?

Don’t pick fights. Don’t egg people on. Don’t instigate.

“They’re not going to fight fair.”

Maybe not.

And rest assured, you too will break the rules of engagement.

But you have to try.

Because not every problem is Trump’s fault.

And not every problem is Biden’s fault.

And they can’t fix our society for us.

Only we can do that.

How do you talk about something that is taboo?

How do porcupines screw?

With extreme caution.
