ONE-MOVE CHECKMATE
or Can You Break the Law to Save It?
Some questions, you just shouldn’t ask.
Is there such a thing as absolute truth?
Of course there isn’t.
But also, OF COURSE THERE IS. According to what we both mean by truth, and the rules we all agree to when we start to speak, yes, of course there is, and you’re not helping by asking that. BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN WHEN I SAY SOMETHING IS TRUE, there are therefore some things we can agree are “absolute truths.”
Can Lincoln break the law to save the Union?
(Of course a President should follow the law.)
But also, OF COURSE HE CAN. What, he should let the country disintegrate and implode so no lawyers or prosecutors or lawmakers get angry? He realized that the People Of This Land had found a great gap in the Law Of This Land. And he had to fill the gap. From without the flawed and failing law that he had at his disposal.
Can NATO (Carney, Macron, Merz, Sanchez, Starmer, etc.) break NATO to save NATO?
Of course the NATO Treaty does not explain how to do that.
But also, OF COURSE THEY CAN. The purpose of NATO, when conceived, was to preserve their brand new post-war peace in perpetuity after World War 2.
See, World War 2 was SO EARTH-SHATTERINGLY BAD FOR EVERYBODY (and the second time people felt that in about 20 years) that it united all the good smart people on the planet in a chorus: NEVER AGAIN.
How to prevent it?
Tie us all together.
Make it so impracticable to divorce that we will just plain stay together.
And, yes, we will probably cheat on each other, but mostly we will: be faithful, and forgive, and forget, and go to marriage counseling, and actually listen to the counselor and your partner, and take what they say to heart, and remain open-minded to new ideas for improvement of any kind..
A perfect idea? No. Probably not. Realistic? Forever? No. Probably not.
But did they change something that clearly wasn’t working and materially make it better and thus save a lot of lives from dying needlessly and allow the world to develop the way it has in technology, diplomacy, human rights, etc. since the 1950s?
Yes. Without any question.
If Emmanuel Macron (or insert other major European leader) thought like Abraham Lincoln and did the following, what would happen?
Preemptively and officially dissolve NATO.
Bonjour… Monsieur Orange: NATO’s done. You already killed it.
(To Donald Trump: a threat to invade Greenland is not an empty threat. It’s not just political theater. I think that’s what you thought. But just like how a lot of people think it’s not libel to say “I’M NOT SAYING STEPHEN COLBERT EATS CHILDREN, BUT STEPHEN COLBERT EATS CHILDREN”, that actually is libel.
And threatening to invade Denmark is, as far as international relations and diplomacy is concerned, just as good as invading Denmark.
You had might as well do it if you’re going to talk about it.
Because threatening that invasion gets Denmark (and therefore ALL OF NATO) thinking: how do we preempt this.
Your neighbor tells you they are going to shoot you. What do you do?
GET. YOUR. GUN.
Love,
Peter Robbins.)
And oh by ze way, we now have formed a new NATO. Everyone else is invited but you. And we now officially declare zat you are an illegitimate president or government or whatever we determine we want to say. (Because this doesn’t have precedent. They’d have to calculate and figure out how to defeat this existentially threatening enemy together.)
You’re a doofus.
Go kick rocks.
One-move checkmate.
Au revoir.
What is Trump going to do? Declare war on Western Europe?
How do you think it would affect Trump’s approval ratings if he blew up the Eiffel Tower?
He’s not going to do that. Because as dumb as Trump has removed all doubt that he is, he still knows how to look out for number one.
Such mounting, incessant, undeniable, REAL POLITICAL pressure would get old Donnie to think about… how do I get out of this as unscathed as possible?
Hmmmm…
Has Donald Trump ever offered the world a lucid and coherent expression of his personal philosophy? Like, written a book for instance?
What does a rat do when he’s cornered?
He starts to squeal.
…to the tune of…
THE ART OF THE DEAL.
Start paintin’ Donnie.
Give up the Epstein cabal, get your guaranteed immunity, and go hide in a hole until you die.
Can American and World Thinkers think about extra-American solutions to America’s problems?
They’re not supposed to.
But yes, OF COURSE THEY CAN.
Because this country is broken. Not forever. And not by our laws or by our systems. By men.
Specifically, by ONE MAN.
Who has gotten a lot of people to listen to him, and we’re going to have to do real work to forgive them and welcome them back into the fold, after we get rid of:
Donald John Trump, Sr.
