The Mar-a-Lago Accords

Coming never.

The Great American Human Migration Crisis is not just the United States’ problem.

This is a continental/hemispheric problem.

This is a generational problem.

If Trump were serious about fixing the problems that cause mass migration from Central and South America, he would convene a summit of all the heads of state of the North, Central, and South American countries.

Imagine it.

The Mar-a-Lago Accords.

An official diplomatic context where these leaders could share their ideas, especially as they relate to the domestic legal options at their respective disposals. These changes could be coordinated to complement each other for the benefit of the hemisphere.

And Trump would have an official, eyes-of-the-world-on-me opportunity to throw his proverbial weight around. He’s the American President at the negotiating table with what he would only describe as “weaker” countries.

In Trump’s worldview, this setup would be an opportunity to claim a lot of political victories.

And to receive an awful lot of flattery and praise.

The other countries would make many concessions to him. Most significantly to Trump, he could pressure them to come up with programs to offer visas of some kind to the people he always says shouldn’t be here in the first place.

Heck, Trump just floated Argentina $20 billion. He could easily get Argentina to take some people in ICE custody that his administration hasn’t figured out what to do with.

He could try to forcefully persuade Brazil to get involved.

Canada would be a major player.

Uruguay could have a lot to say as South America’s best-functioning government.

The conference could try in earnest to figure out how to alleviate Mexico’s burden as the place people end up waiting to get into the US.

Were a meaningful piece of international legislation to result, it would be imperfect. It would fail in many areas. It would forget to consider large groups of people. It would be a political lightning rod.

But wouldn’t scheduling a meeting of the stakeholders be a good start?

And what a pretense to fortify the New World Order he’s acting to bring about: a hemispheric conference on his signature domestic issue.

So why hasn’t Trump convened the Mar-a-Lago Accords?

Because the chaos and agony and continued mass migration of this hemisphere’s desperate, hungry, tired, eager, personal-freedom-seeking people is GOOD for Trump.

Trump is a fighter.

What would he be if he finally defeated his enemy, the Great American “Invasion” of Immigrants?

Trump’s identity depends on permanent conflict.

Governing solutions eliminate narrative fuel.

Victory ends mobilization.

Donald Trump needs the Great American Human Migration Crisis.
