THINGS HAPPEN
don't they?
Things happen.
Don’t they?
We know that Homer’s account of the Trojan War is inaccurate.
We know that Herodotus’ Histories is full of things that didn’t happen.
We know that Julius Caesar’s Commentarii do not paint a historically accurate picture of his life.
What is History?
History is what happened.
Historical interpretation (history) is what we’re left with.
If someone ever says “well history shows that….”
You need to be asking
Do you mean History or history?
You see, nature doesn’t keep a detailed record of what happens here.
People do.
We’d let the chimps do it but they’re a little behind schedule in Darwin class.
So people is the best we’re going to get.
WE NEED TO TELL THE TRUTH.
THAT’S WHY LYING IS A SIN.
SO THAT WE CAN RECORD THE TRUTH.
FOR OUR CHILDREN.
NEVER STOP ASKING: WHAT IS THE TRUTH?
IF WE USE OUR INSTITUTIONS AS THEY WERE INTENDED TO BE USED,
THEY COULD HELP US KEEP CHARLATANS AND LIARS
FROM DISORIENTING SOCIETY
TO THE POINT THAT WE WALK OFF A CLIFF.
Nothing is black and white.
Everything[i] is nuanced.
