What is a lie?
and what is not?
When George Bush said, “read my lips: no new taxes”,
then economic conditions developed such that raising taxes was clearly in the best interests of the country,
and taxes got raised,
he did not lie.
He spoke too soon.
He chose poor words.
He overcommitted.
He stepped in it.
There is a big difference.
Just because something happened that you said would not happen does not mean that you lied.
Just because you do something you said you would not do does not mean that you lied.
We have to make room for the spirit of what was said.
You might have just gotten carried away. And yes, you have egg on your face.
But Bush meant what he said when he said that.
You want a lie?
A naked, outright, no good, blatant, made up, poopy lie?
“Trump won in 2020.”
